5 Critical Mistakes Almost Every Business Makes and How to Avoid Them!

Wednesday November 22, 2006 by Bob Burnham

There has never been a time in history when it is easier to become a multi millionaire from your own business. Whether it is a carpet cleaning business, a handyman franchise, computer services, plumber, electrician or whatever, if you follow some universal business principles you will get rich. There really is no other outcome.

There are however 5 critical mistakes that businesses make. This is the reason that 95% of all new businesses go out of business within 5 years.

One of the nice things about today’s internet is that you have access to the resources you need to make your business a success. The only reason for business failure today is if you don’t take the time to learn what it takes to have a truly profitable business.

Following is 5 critical mistakes, but there are even more that all business owners must navigate through on their way to business success.

1. Living in your own economy

All to often when an employee of a business leaves to go into his own he still lives in his own economy. Let me explain. The new entrepreneur was making $16.00 per hour at their old job so they think that if they charge $25.00 per hour as an entrepreneur they will be on easy street. The problem with that is you can’t run a professional business on $25.00 per hour.

Within a couple of years they figure that out, but in the mean time they have been financially devastated. Don’t let that happen to you. Find out what it cost to operate a business and charge accordingly. The time you put into educating yourself to run a business will be paid many times over as you grow your company. Either way you will pay and it is better through profits than bankruptcy.

2. Not knowing enough about service.

I am very lucky to have worked with many franchisees over the years. I know from experience that the franchisee that focuses more on service than technical will always have more good paying customers. To be in any business today you have to be good at your servicing of customers.

I have seen some companies that are very good technically but lack customer service that wither away and die. Service, Service, Service makes everybody happy and you a very rich entrepreneur. A word of caution though. Don’t even consider for one minute that you know what service is. You need good training in this area to be successful.

3. No knowledge of the Law of Attraction

Definition: I attract to my life whatever I give my ‘Energy, Focus, and Attention to, whether Wanted or Unwanted

Most people including business people spend their life focused on what they don’t want. They may say to themselves I don’t want to run ’short of money at the end of the month’. The subconscious mind doesn’t hear the don’t and only hears short of money at the end of the month.

You don’t want your mantra to be ‘short of money at the end of the month’. Instead your focus should be, ‘I will have a good profit at the end of the month’. What you focus on grows. You create your own realty and how you focus your thoughts will in every case determine your outcome. Learn more about the Law of Attraction and change your life.

4. Don’t know the role emotions play in business

I have a mastermind group that meets every Friday morning at 5:00 AM my time. It really is fantastic and I always feel totally inspired after that 1 hour call each week. We go over our goals and make each other accountable to the time frame we set for them. When you get four people together the synergy is really something. You don’t just have four times the power you have more like a square root of four. Four times four is sixteen and I think that may just be under estimating the power of that group.

The other morning one of the group members started talking about how he had seen a quote from a book and this quote just jumped out at him. It was an AHA moment. He actually said it had such an impact on him that it was like the last missing piece of the puzzle. Now that is exciting. I know he has read this secret before but like many of us, you have to be ready to hear it. If you are not ready to hear it, someone or some book, course, or what ever, will tell you it, but you just won’t hear.

I told him of how many books I had just recently reread because the first time I read them I was unimpressed or wasn’t ready for the information. It was usually because other favorite authors of mine had recommended the book that I had a second look.

The quote that he read was that it is how you “feel” that will dictate how well your life goes. I asked the name of the book but all he could remember about the title was that it had, he thought, something about your life in it. I knew as soon as I heard the term Feelings combined with Life it was “Excuse Me Your Life Is Waiting” by Lyn Grabhorn.

I had read the book a few years earlier and I was obviously ready to here the information at that time because it had a huge impact on me. I had recommended it to a few friends and business associates and most really liked it. I said to my mastermind buddy, ” you know you can read all the books you want, go to as many seminars and courses as possible but it will still not have the impact of success on your life that just  “Feeeeeeeeeeling Happy” will accomplish.

You may hear this today as you are reading this or you might never hear it. I hope at the very least at some point you hear it, have a huge AHA moment and take the time to call me and say I heard it. Your phone call is always welcome because I love it when someone gets closer to bliss.

Now you might be thinking that how can I be happy when I am having financial and relationship problems? This is the critical point that is so important. You will not have financial or relationship problems when you are “Feeeeeeeeeeling Happy”. It is like the chicken and the egg. Which comes first? Well in this instance you have to feel happy for things to go well. It is not the other way around where you will be happy after something you want to happen, happens.

5. Not willing to Unlearn

The First Problem For All Of Us Is Not To Learn But To Unlearn
Gloria Steinem

Be open to unlearn all your old ways and leave yourself open to a new World of Wealth, Abundance and Happiness. You were born to be successful; in fact we were all born to be successful. The only person standing in your way is yourself.

Becoming wildly successful, wealthy and happy is not something new to mankind. There have been many successful people in the past and there will be more and more in the future. You see success is an inside job, it’s not what you have on the outside but it is who you are on the inside. As you become more and more successful on the inside the universe has no other choice than to reflect back to you all the abundance and prosperity of the outside.

We have all been programmed by our parents, teachers, friends, TV and many other sources. All that information is stored in your subconscious mind and may or may not be doing you any good in your life. So not only must you be willing to learn you must also be willing to unlearn.

‘What You Focus On Grows’ What are you thinking?
