How to Write Articles Even If You Don’t Know How

Friday March 9, 2007 by Bob Burnham

I have been a entrepreneur since I was 12 years old and have been running my current business for over 30 years. Article writing was not a big part of my day to day activities until I decided to help some other businesses with the information that has made my businesses successful.

I have to admit that I was a little reluctant and intimidated by the many good article writers I read on a daily basis but I have to tell you that you can not let that stop you. There will always be someone who is a better writer than you no matter what level you are at so you have to let it go and just decide that good enough is good enough.

I use to say to myself these self defeating statements:

1. I need to learn how to write better before I can give more information on my self help blog

2. I need to get some professional help or maybe a ghost writer before I can add more information to my self help blog.

3. I need to get a good editor to help me before I can give anymore advice and write  articles on my self help blog

4. I have to be a good writer before I can give any good information to the businesses that read my self help blog.

But then something happened. I started to notice that I was buying information from other so called Guru’s that wasn’t very good grammatically or spelling wise but the information content was good. Actually when I think about it sometimes even the content was not even that good. I noticed that I was holding the standard bar higher for me than I was for the information guru that I was buying information from.

But there was a major difference between the Guru’s and me. They were putting out the information. You know they were taking action. I realize now that it doesn’t really matter to me if it’s perfect or not because I just want to get out the information so it can help as many people as possible.

I got an email today from someone who chose to unsubscribe from my newsletter and you know it was actually music to my ears.

This is the comment this person gave for unsubscribing:

“Your spelling and grammar need improvement. Plus, your newsletter isn’t ready yet.”

So why is this music to my ears? Because first of all I have lots of people benefiting from my information, grammar, spelling mistakes and all and if I had waited for it to be perfect I would never have gotten started.

Don’t let the nit pickers stop you from realizing your goals because it is likely those same people aren’t very successful anyway. And if anyone says you are not that good at writing because of grammar or spelling just say with a big bright smile thank you and than say to yourself that at least you’re doing it.

Just go for it and dance like nobody is watching. Head in the direction of your dreams and miracles will happen. As Nike says ‘Just Do It’

    1. Bravo. Let’s hear it for someone who is willing to put it out there. If we wait for perfection, we will never achieve anything. Doing is learning and through doing we grow and progress. Waiting = stagnation.
