Internet Marketing Unplugged

Tuesday April 17, 2007 by Bob Burnham

Being an entrepreneur most of my life has meant I have learned a lot of great information. How has the great information helped me? Well first let me say that I love to learn but on the path to success some of the information has probably hurt me more than helped me. Let me explain.

I have had great success over the years in my brick and mortar business but as I look back it has been only a relative few things that have lead to the success. Of all the things I learned it was only a handful of ideas that I implemented that were really generating a lion’s part of the income. In fact if I had spent more time on the few things that produced the income and less time learning and trying other things I would probably be even more successful today.

I saw another example of this recently at an internet marketing seminar I went to. The seminar was put on by a young 26 year old fellow who had been extremely successful. I was there to learn all his inside tips and tricks to help me in internet marketing because it is something I find very fascinating and has been a lot of fun learning about.

What really woke me up at this seminar is the fact that here I was in my usual learning everything mode and I am listening to a guy that knows a lot less than me about internet marketing. The point is he knows a few things and does them well and makes a ton of money. That is his brilliance that he focuses on the right things.

In internet marketing there can be a lot to learn. In fact there can be so much to learn that it can be truly overwhelming. You can be bombarded with all the information available to you that is going to make you money but don’t let it take over your life because:

‘You probably don’t need 99% of that information’

In can overwhelm you, discourage you, confuse you and make you a master of nothing. You only have to know a few of the right things in any business to be successful. Doing a few things well that work will always outperform trying to learn everything and mastering nothing. If you are a learn-a-holic like me don’t let it get in your way. Do the things that are making you money in your businesses and sub out the rest.

Unplug yourself from all the information that will only slow you down and possibly confuse while noticing and focusing on the things that will build your business. I love to learn because learning is a passion but when it comes to business be aware of the things that generate sales and profits and do more of that. Remember ‘What Ever You Focus On Grows’
