Small Business Marketing, How To Double Your Profits

Monday July 23, 2007 by Bob Burnham

Most small business owners don’t focus enough on marketing and struggle to make a profit. Many small business owners put 90% of their time into the day to day operations and only 10% of their time into marketing.

This can be a very costly and even risky mistake to run your business like this. You can delegate most all of the day to day business tasks to employees or subs leaving you with more time to develop a more consistent results producing marketing plan.

You should be spending 80% of your time on marketing and only 20% of your time doing the day to day routines of running your business. This is why you own a business so you can make a profit and have your employees operate the day to day business.

If you turn your time around from 20 % to 80% time spent on marketing you will find your profits will soar. You probably won’t actually double your business because I am sure you will find you will quadruple your business instead,

If you are doing a job that either an employee or sub can do for $25.00 per hour that means that is what you are producing for your company. I don’t think anyone gets into business to just have a job so doing the $25.00 per hour jobs will just keep you stuck in the struggle zone.

You must be focused the majority of your time on the job of marketing that can produce large profits. If your marketing produces more customers, profits and business you are going to be way further ahead than saving $25.00 per hour doing a job someone else can do.

It is a simple common sense approach but sometimes common sense is not all that common. Even after hours or on the weekend you will want to assess if you are using your time to the best advantage.

Are you cutting your lawn yourself on the weekends which would save you maybe $25.00 or are you reading a marketing book that may bring you in an extra several hundred thousand dollars in profits?

Making big profits in your own small business is easy if you focus on the right profit producing tasks. The choice is yours but I am sure once you see the choice more clearly you will choose marketing.

Remember What You Focus On Grows.
